Uganda shines at All Africa Senior Badminton Championship in Cameroon

Uganda Badminton national team staged a star three performance at the concluded All Africa Senior Badminton championship in South Africa.

Fadila Shamika, Husina Kobugabe and Tracy Naluwooza won medals for team Uganda.

The most exciting performer at the championship was Uganda’s 20 year old Fadila Shamika Mohammed who won Bronze for the women singles and women’s doubles Bronze with Tracy Naluwooza.

The Uganda celebrated badminton star, Shamika put up impressive performance at Championship were she was defeated by Egypt’s Doha Hany in women’s Single to win bronze.

In the women’s doubles event, Shamika teamed up with Naluwooza to win bronze after being eliminated by South Africa 9-3.

Another Bronze medal in women’s Singles came from Husina Kobugabe who reached the semifinal stage but fell to Egyptian Nour Ahmed Youssri in straight sets (21-12, 21-11).

This was the first time in Uganda’s Badminton history to win a Gold medal at this championship. Shamika won a gold and bronze medal in women’s doubles at this championship.

In the last championship 2023 in south Africa team Uganda won five medals with one gold and four bronze medal.

The Bronze medalists in different categories include Husina Kobugabe with two (2) medals in Women singles and doubles respectively, Gladys Mbabazi Gladys (1) in Women’s Doubles and Brian Kasirye (1) in men’s singles.
