Ugandan celebrated badminton star Fadirah Shamika aims for gold medals at All Africa Badminton Championship in Douala, Cameroon.
The badminton youngster had significant dominance at All African Senior badminton Championship having won Gold at 2023 All Africa Badminton Championship in South Africa.
“I’m Angry for gold medals at all Africa Badminton Championship because I really trained hard and am ready to compete,” Shamika said.
“Honestly, I want to thank my dad for pushing me to reach this level. I was exhausted but he kept telling me ‘one more to go’,” she added.
“Since am done with S6 studies, no pressure and I want to focus on the sport to see that I can be able to qualify for the 2028 Olympic games.”
The team comprising of four men and four women will compete in the men’s singles, women’s singles men’s doubles and mixed doubles categories.
The team is in intensive training in Ndejje under guidance of coach Karimunda Ivan has prepare for the coming All Africa senior badminton championships.
The Championships will be held in Douala, Cameroon from the 10th to 16th February 2025 and the team is expected to travelling to Cameroon on Sunday 9th January 2025.
Ugandan team is composed of eight players include Husina Kobugabe, Gladys Mbabazi, Tracy Naluwooza, Shamika Fadirah Mohamad Rafi, Amos Muyanja (capt), Kenneth Mwambu, Agatius Owiny and Rubega Muzafaru while Kalimunda Ivan will be travelling as the head coach of the team.
