Ugandan long distance runner sets new record at 3rd Sevilla Half Marathon

On Sunday evening in Sevilla, Spain Ugandan long distance runner Rebecca Chelangat has set a new record at 3rd Sevilla Half Marathon.

The 23 year-old who came to this race with a personal best of 1:10.34 she got last year at the Bangsaen 21 Half Marathon, where she took silver, lived to the expectations of the race organisers as she went after the course record of 1:07.59, set last year by Ethiopia’s Alemtsehay Bimr Zerihun thus setting a new one of 1:07.18.

Chelengat reduced the record by 41 seconds and was followed in second place by her compatriot, Annet Chemengich on 1:08.17 as Ethiopia’s Yalganesh Eskamech Gedefa wrapped the podium on 1:08.50.

Chelangat took home €2,000 as prize money with an additional €1,000 for breaking the course record.

Reigning Uganda 10,000m National champion, Rebecca Chelangat she won the 2020 National mountain Running Championship in Kapchorwa.
