The regional football landscape is set for a major shake-up as the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) heads to the polls.
Earlier this week, Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde confirmed that the highly anticipated Elective General Assembly will be hosted at the prestigious Djibouti Palace Kempinski on February 7th, 2026.
This assembly isn’t just about administrative formalities; it represents a pivotal moment for regional football governance, with Uganda’s own Eng. Magogo Moses Hassim (President of FUFA) confirmed on the provisional list of candidates for the CECAFA Presidency.
The race for the top seat is a three-way contest featuring prominent figures in regional football:
Eng. Magogo Moses Hassim (Uganda)
Alexandre Muyenge (Burundi – Current Acting President)
Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam (Eritrea)
With Magogo in the running, Ugandan football fans and stakeholders will be watching closely to see if the FUFA boss can elevate his leadership to the regional level.
Key Agenda Items
Beyond the elections, the 12 Member Associations—including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia—will gather to shape the future of the zone. The assembly is tasked with:
Budget Approval: Finalizing the financial roadmap for the 2026 season.
Competitions Calendar: Adopting the schedule for regional tournaments, which is crucial for national team preparations.
Judicial and Executive Appointments: Filling key roles to ensure the stability of the federation. “After consultations with our hosts, the Federation Djiboutienne de Football, we have agreed that the Elective Assembly… will take place at the Djibouti Palace Kempinski,” stated Sseninde.
As the February 7th date approaches, all eyes turn to Djibouti.

Sounds like a really exciting time for football in the region! It will be interesting to see who takes the lead.
