The MOIL Rally Crew of Yasin Nasser co-driven by Ali Katumba has completed day one of Safari Rally with hopes finishing on podium in African Rally Championship (ARC) category at the end of the event.

The Safari Rally doubles as both third round of WRC and first ARC round. Uganda’s Nasser and Kenya’s Karan Patel, Samman Vohra, Jasmeet Chana, and Hamza Anwar are will be going out for the ARC points this week.

“We did test our set up yesterday in the shakedown. In Kasarani we tried to be a bit cautious because of the first rain we experienced but good enough by the time we set off the track had dried. The second stage was good too thus giving us momentum and vibe to attack tomorrow,” says Katumba.

“Tomorrow will be the hardest because we are doing four rough sections with fesh fesh repeatedly before going for service. Just like our goal and strategy this year, we are going to take it easy because we don’t want a DNF nor a super rally this time round,” added Katumba.

The MOIL Rally Crew has improved on their speed time compared to the previous runs of previous events. Pace noted caller attributes the improvement to the increased practise.

“We, more especially the driver have laboured to train and increase on the love for the sport and the machine thus the improved speeds as seen today in Kasarani and Mzabibu stages.”

Tomorrow, the Safari Rally will begin with the new 31.40 kilometres of Camp Moran (the longest) before heading to the shortened and reverse direction Loldia, Geothermal and Kedong.

Kendog is where MOIL Rally Crew dropped off last year after a dangerous roll that left the car beyond repair but this time round it was shortened to 15.10 kilometres, half a distance for last year.

“We still recall last year’s incident but we will be much cautious in that section more so where we had the roll from but good enough this time it’s a few kilometres from the fly finish.
