NEC’s impressive run of form faces one of its sternest tests yet when they travel to BUL on Tuesday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, in a clash that could reshape the top-half standings.

The visitors arrive with a remarkable 16-match unbeaten league run still intact, a streak that has quietly transformed them into one of the most consistent sides in the competition this season. However, BUL present a familiar obstacle they have failed to overcome in recent meetings, with NEC unbeaten in all competitive encounters against them (two wins and seven draws).

BUL, though, are beginning to rediscover some rhythm at a crucial point in the campaign. They snapped a four-match winless run last week with a confidence-boosting win over Express at Nakivubo and will hope that result signals a return to stability.

Currently 8th on 34 points, BUL are still firmly in the race for a top-eight finish and see this fixture as an opportunity to close the gap on those above them. Their motivation is clear—maintain control of their mid-table ambitions while testing themselves against one of the league’s most resilient sides.

NEC, sitting 5th with 42 points, are equally driven. A positive result in Njeru would tighten their grip on a push towards the top four, adding even more significance to an already high-pressure encounter.

Badru Kaddu’s side, however, will have to navigate the challenge without forward Richard Basangwa, who remains sidelined after suffering a concussion in the draw with Express. Even so, they still carry attacking threats in Samuel Ssekamatte, Innocent Media, and Muhamad Ssenoga, all capable of breaking down BUL’s well-organised defensive structure.

One of NEC’s most striking achievements this season has been their defensive discipline, having gone nine straight matches without conceding since their last defeat to KCCA on December 12. That solidity will be tested once again against a BUL side determined to halt their momentum and protect their home turf.

With unbeaten pride, top-four ambitions, and mid-table security all at stake, the Njeru showdown promises to be a finely balanced contest.
