Tanzania’s Taifa Stars have stormed into the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after wrapping up their group stage campaign with a 2-1 win over Madagascar at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The result means Tanzania finish Group B with a flawless record—three wins out of three—becoming the first side to secure a last-eight spot.

It was teenage sensation Clement Mzize who once again stole the headlines, striking twice inside the first 20 minutes to set the tone for the evening. His clinical instincts punished Madagascar’s shaky defence, first reacting quickest to a rebound before glancing in a perfectly delivered free kick from Feisal Salum.

Though Madagascar pulled one back before the break through Mika Razafimahatana, the hosts’ disciplined defence and well-organised midfield ensured the lead was never surrendered. Even as the visitors applied pressure late on, Tanzania stood firm, showing the composure of a team with bigger ambitions than just clearing the group stage.
