Uganda People’s Defence Forces FC have opted for a decisive change on the touchline as they look to rescue a stuttering 2025/26 Uganda Premier League campaign.

The army side confirmed on Tuesday that Paul Kiwanuka has exited the club, ending his spell as first assistant coach. Defensive coach Denis Oweka has also been released, marking a clear shift in direction as UPDF search for solutions to their on-field struggles.

In a brief statement, the club announced that both members of the technical team had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect, paving the way for fresh faces ahead of the second round of the season.

UPDF have moved quickly to restructure the backroom staff, naming Musa Mudde as the new first assistant coach, while Juma Nassur takes charge of goalkeeping duties.

The changes come after a difficult first round that yielded just three wins from 15 matches, leaving the soldiers languishing second from bottom with 11 points and under mounting pressure in the relegation battle.

With the league set to resume next week, UPDF will hope the technical overhaul injects renewed belief when they host Buhimba United Saints FC on Friday in what could be a defining fixture for their survival push.
