Vipers SC squandered an opportunity to climb to the summit of the Uganda Premier League after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by bottom-placed Calvary FC at the Midigo Primary School grounds in Yumbe.

The champions, who would have gone top with a win, instead moved only one spot up to second on 18 points — two behind leaders KCCA, though with a game in hand. Calvary, meanwhile, celebrated just their second point of the season, clinging to hope in their battle for survival.

The match itself was a cagey, stop-start affair marked by injuries, missed chances and lengthy pauses. Vipers saw early disruption when Abubakali Walusimbi limped off after just 17 minutes, and despite carving out openings through Milton Karisa and later Yunus Ssentamu’s late free kick that shaved the crossbar, the visitors couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Calvary, buoyed by strong home support, defended with grit and discipline, with goalkeeper Fauzu Tatiga delivering a standout performance that earned him man of the match honours.

Multiple substitutions from both sides failed to tilt the momentum, and even five added minutes couldn’t separate the teams as the final whistle confirmed a goalless draw.

The result leaves Vipers ruing a missed chance to reclaim the top spot, while Calvary will take pride in a hard-earned point against one of the league’s giants.
