Ugandan football icon Hakim “Boda Boda” Magumba has once again been celebrated for his illustrious career after receiving a renewed Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly ceremony held at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo.

The former SC Villa, Iganga, Atraco FC and Uganda Cranes maestro used the moment not just to express gratitude but also to reflect on the journey that shaped him. In his acceptance remarks, Magumba thanked those who nurtured his rise — from his supportive parents to administrators such as Isa Magoola and FUFA presidents across his playing era: Twaha Kakaire, Denis Obua, Lawrence Mulindwa, and current boss Moses Magogo.

Magumba also turned his attention to the new generation, urging players to stay clean and avoid substance abuse. “I played 20 years without using drugs,” he said. “Football and drugs cannot go together. Young players must protect themselves and protect the game.”
Away from the honorary segment, the ceremony also spotlighted standout performers across various sports. Swimmer Gloria Muzito claimed the month’s top accolade after excelling at the World Islamic Solidarity Games, outshining athletes Rebecca Chellangat and Samuel Cherop.

In football, budding talent James Bogere was voted best performer, edging Uganda Cubs skipper Hamza Ssengooba and Kawempe Muslim goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje.
Golf rounded off the evening’s honours, with Joseph Cwinya-Ai taking the award for his impressive showing at the Kinyara Sugar Open ahead of Joseph Kamulindwa and Meron Kemigisha.
The ceremony once again highlighted both legends who shaped Uganda’s sporting history and the rising stars poised to carry that legacy forward.
