Vipers overcome UPDF to go Eight points clear

Vipers SC continued their impressive run in the Uganda Premier League, claiming a hard-fought 1-0 win over UPDF FC at St Mary’s stadium in Kitende to make proper ground in the hunt for league glory this season.

In a closely competitive encounter, Gusto Mulongo scored the decisive late goal to give the hosts title hopes and 19th victory of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League campaign.

Vipers have now stretched their lead at the table with a 8 point difference between them and second placed NEC FC.

Vipers took a late lead in the 74th minute as Gusto Mulongo scored a well headed ball after goalkeeper Richard Anyama failed to handle Allan Okello’s free-kick.

Vipers were the better side overall, but UPDF showed resilience throughout the match. Venoms are unbeaten in their 15 games encounter against UPDF FC. They have won 11 and drew 4.

The Kitende based side are table leaders with 62 points after 26 matches while UPDF remains 10th on the log with 33 points from 26 matches.

UPDF FC will host Bright Stars FC on Saturday 10th at the Bombo Barracks Military Ground while Vipers will host Mbale Heroes on Friday 9th May at the St Mary’s Kitende
