Vipers SC heads to Njeru today (Saturday) with one clear objective of sealing their seventh Uganda Premier League title.
Sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 65 points, the Venoms need just one more victory to crown their season in commanding fashion.
Their emphatic 6-0 win over Mbale Heroes in the previous match not only highlighted their attacking prowess but also extended their lead to seven points over second-placed NEC, who dropped points in a 1-1 draw with BUL FC. A win for Vipers on Saturday, combined with any stumble by NEC against Bright Stars, would confirm the Venoms as 2024/25 champions with two games still to play.
But Vipers will have to overcome a determined BUL FC side, who are unbeaten in the second round and recently dented NEC’s title challenge with a draw at Lugogo. Under the guidance of coach Simeon Masaba, BUL are eager to maintain their impressive form.
“Vipers have had a great run, but we’re also on a good streak. We’re playing for our supporters and our sponsors, and we want to finish the season on a high,” Masaba told club media.
Vipers’ head coach Fred Muhumuza anticipates a challenging match.
“This is a tricky fixture. BUL haven’t lost in the second round, so we expect a fight. But we’re fully focused — lkevery player knows what’s at stake,” Muhumuza said.
All eyes will be on BUL’s red-hot striker Karim Ndugwa, who has scored six goals since the league’s resumption and will be facing his former club. Meanwhile, Vipers will look to the experience and creativity of Allan Okello, Milton Karisa, and Karim Watambala to break down BUL’s solid defense.
Will Vipers wrap up the title early, or will BUL throw another twist into the title race? Saturday’s clash promises high stakes and high drama.
