Uganda’s emerging table tennis stars Joseph Ssebatindira and Patience Anyango have departed for Sheffield, England, to take part in the prestigious ITTF World Hopes Week and Challenge, scheduled for October 13–19, 2025.

The two young talents will be under the guidance of coaches Alvin Katumba and Tendo Balyewunya as they join the world’s most promising Under-12 players at the English Institute of Sport for a week of elite training and competition.

The program brings together 40 players (20 boys and 20 girls) and an equal number of coaches from across five continents, offering a rare opportunity for skill development, tactical improvement, and exposure to international coaching standards.

The event, which concludes with a high-level competition over the final two days, serves as a global platform for nurturing the next generation of table tennis stars.

Ssebatindira and Anyango earned their invitations after winning gold medals at the Africa Hopes Week and Challenge held in Nigeria earlier this year — a performance that underscored Uganda’s growing reputation in youth table tennis.

As they step onto the global stage, the young pair will not only represent Uganda but also carry the hopes of an emerging generation of African talent aiming to make its mark in world table tennis.
