Zimbabwe got their Rugby Africa Cup and Rugby World Cup qualification campaign off to a flying start with a dominant 43–8 win over Morocco on Monday, July 8th, at Namboole Stadium in Uganda.

The Sables were in imperious form from start to finish, combining clinical kicking, aggressive defense, and well-worked tries to overwhelm a Moroccan side that never quite found its footing.

Fly-half Ian Prior was the architect of Zimbabwe’s impressive win, contributing a flawless 23 points with five penalties and four conversions, pulling the strings with calm authority and precision. Ian Prior opened Zimbabwe’s scoring with five consecutive penalties, punishing Morocco’s early infringements and building a 15–0 lead before tries even came into play.

Tapiwa Mafura broke the try drought with a powerful finish, converted by Prior. Edward Sigauke then dotted down for Zimbabwe’s second, again converted. Trevor Gurwe and Dylan Utete added to the scoreboard with further tries, both under the posts and neatly converted by Prior.

Zimbabwe’s forward pack laid the platform with dominant scrummaging and ruck control, while their backline sliced through Morocco’s defense with well-executed phase play.

Morocco’s lone try came from Hassan Haimiche, who powered over after a rare period of sustained pressure. Ilan El Khattabi added a penalty, but it wasn’t nearly enough to dent Zimbabwe’s momentum.
