The 2026 Stanbic Uganda Cup burst into life as the round of 64 got underway with a flurry of matches played across the country, delivering early surprises, dominant displays and dramatic finishes.

One of the standout results came from the western region, where Six O’Clock claimed a narrow but historic 1-0 victory over former giants Mbale Heroes. Despite their rich pedigree, including Uganda Cup triumphs in 1976 and 1999, Mbale Heroes—now competing in the second-tier league following relegation last season—were unable to find a way past the determined regional side, who marched into the round of 32.
While Six O’Clock celebrated a famous scalp, BUL FC grabbed headlines with the most emphatic performance of the opening round. The Eastern Giants demolished Agape United 7-0, setting the benchmark for the competition. Veteran striker Karim Ndugwa ran riot with four goals, while Seiri Arigumaho struck a rapid hat trick to complete a ruthless attacking display.

Defending champions Vipers SC had a far tougher assignment, grinding out a 1-0 win over Northern Gateway in Gulu. Chekumwa’s solitary strike proved decisive in a tense contest that tested the Venoms’ resolve.
Elsewhere, Mbarara City showed character on the road, overturning an early deficit to defeat Busia Young Stars 2-1 in Busia. KCCA FC also progressed comfortably, seeing off St George 2-0 in Fort Portal through goals from Emmanuel Anyama and Ivan Ambisibwe.

UPDF FC joined the list of qualifiers after edging Nsambya 2-1 in Kampala, while Express FC needed penalties to survive against Packwach Young Stars. The Red Eagles came from behind to force a shootout, eventually prevailing 7-6 to keep their cup hopes alive.
The round of 64 continues on Friday, 5 February 2026, as more teams battle for a place in the last 32. At stake is not just domestic glory, but also the prized reward of representing Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.
