The dust of Garuga is set to rise once more, not just for another round of the Mountain Dew Motocross Championship, but for a clash of titans, a brotherhood divided by the roar of engines and united by a thirst for victory. The Katende brothers, Jonathan and Miguel, are back, and their names echo through the motocross world like a promise of unparalleled speed and skill.

Jonathan, the reigning champion of the 85cc category, carries the weight of expectation with the calm confidence of a seasoned warrior. His riding is a ballet of precision and power, each turn, each jump, a testament to countless hours of dedication. But this year, his greatest challenge might not come from a rival nation, but from within his own family.

Miguel Katende

Miguel, the elder brother, is a force reborn. A recent leg injury threatened to derail his career, but Miguel, true to his spirit, has not only returned but is set to dominate. He’s currently leading the charge in the 125cc category, but a strategic move sees him also vying for supremacy in the 85cc class – the very category Jonathan calls his own. This isn’t just a race; it’s a sibling showdown, a test of wills and skill that has captivated fans for years. Their intense rivalry is legendary, pushing both brothers to superhuman feats on the track.

The Garuga circuit, on April 4th and 5th, 2026, isn’t just hosting Round 3 of the Mountain Dew Motocross; it’s also the grand opener of the Central African Championship. Uganda, the defending champions, are ready to stake their claim once more, with the Katende brothers at the forefront of their assault. Riders from Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya will converge, their machines primed for battle, their eyes fixed on the coveted trophies.

The WMX Open and 50cc Ladies categories promise to showcase incredible female talent, adding another layer of excitement to the weekend.

Keep an eye on the formidable Kenyan contingent, with young talents like Thang’a Kihungi and Jeremy Hawi in the 65cc, Zane Ngoru and Simitar Krachev-Malit in the 50cc, and Armani Amani in the 85cc, all looking to make their mark.
