Police FC produced a spirited second-half response to overturn an early setback and secure a 2-1 victory over URA in a Uganda Premier League clash at the Police Arena in Kamwokya on Tuesday.

The visitors made the perfect start, silencing the home crowd inside two minutes when Joshua Lubwama rose highest to head in from Disan Galiwango’s well-delivered corner, giving URA a quick advantage and hinting at a difficult afternoon for the Cops.

But Police responded with urgency and composure, gradually taking control of the game. Their pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Lawrence Tezikya capitalised on URA’s failure to clear their lines, reacting fastest inside the box to fire home a sharp equaliser that restored belief among the hosts.

The contest remained open and tense, with both sides creating chances. URA nearly regained the lead midway through the first half after Samuel Kayongo brought down Isma Mugulusi in the penalty area, handing the visitors a golden opportunity from the spot in the 32nd minute.

However, Moses Aliro’s penalty was brilliantly denied by goalkeeper Edward Kasibante, who produced a stunning double save to keep Police level. That moment proved pivotal in shaping the outcome of the match.

After the break, Police grew stronger, pushing URA deeper and forcing errors in midfield. Their persistence was rewarded in the 70th minute when Bedia Ikamba arrived at the right place inside the box to apply a quick finish from Saidi Kyeyune’s well-placed delivery, completing the comeback and sending the home fans into celebration.

URA attempted a late response and came close just two minutes later when Bruno Bunyaga unleashed a dangerous effort, but Kasibante once again stood firm with another crucial save to preserve the lead.

From there, Police managed the closing stages with discipline and organisation, shutting down URA’s final attempts to salvage a point.

The result lifts Police into fifth place on 41 points, strengthening their push in the upper half of the table, while URA’s inconsistent season continues as they remain 11th with 23 points after 24 matches.
