More than 10 teachers from various schools in Soroti District have successfully completed a two-day Shuttle Time workshop organized by Badminton Uganda as part of ongoing efforts to promote and develop badminton across the country.
The workshop focused on equipping participants with coaching and technical skills necessary to introduce and strengthen the sport in schools and local communities.
Under its nationwide development program, Badminton Uganda has already conducted similar activities in several districts across the Teso Sub-region, including Kumi District, Butebo District, Pallisa District, Bukedea District, Butaleja District, Ngora District, Serere District, Kaberamaido District, Katakwi District, Soroti District, and Kalaki District.

Speaking during the workshop, Simon Mugabi, Chief Executive Officer of Badminton Uganda, said the training also covered technical officiating skills. He explained that developing local officials would reduce the need to transport technical personnel from other regions to oversee tournaments.
According to Mugabi, building local capacity will make it easier and more cost-effective to organize badminton competitions across different parts of the country.
After completing activities in the Teso Sub-region, he revealed that Badminton Uganda plans to extend the program to additional districts as part of its mission to expand the sport nationwide.
Participants praised the workshop for enhancing their knowledge and understanding of badminton. They also pledged to establish badminton clubs in their respective schools to encourage greater student participation in the sport.
The Shuttle Time program is expected to play a significant role in increasing participation in badminton and nurturing future talent across Uganda.
