Vipers SC steadied their Uganda Premier League campaign with a controlled 2-0 away win over Buhimba United at Royals Park, Butema on Tuesday, a response that restored momentum after a brief dip in form marked by back-to-back draws.
The league leaders did not need to be at their fluent best to get the job done. Instead, they relied on early pressure, defensive discipline, and clinical moments at key stages of the match to collect maximum points and maintain their position at the summit.
Vipers set the tempo from the opening minutes, pushing Buhimba deep and forcing errors in their own half. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute in rather unfortunate fashion for the hosts.
A dangerous delivery into the box caused confusion, and in an attempt to clear his lines, Derrick Ochen inadvertently turned the ball into his own net after Hillary Mukundane’s header ricocheted off him and crossed the line. The early setback left Buhimba chasing the game almost immediately.
After taking the lead, Vipers managed the game intelligently rather than overwhelming it. Yunus Sentamu proved to be the main creative spark, constantly stretching Buhimba’s defensive line and creating openings in wide areas. He came close to doubling the advantage midway through the half after beating his markers and setting up Karim Watambala, but the midfielder’s effort was blocked at the crucial moment.

Just before halftime, Sentamu again found space in behind the defence and forced a sharp save from the Buhimba goalkeeper, who kept his side within reach heading into the break.Despite the home side’s efforts to stay compact, Vipers remained in control of possession and territory, limiting Buhimba’s attacking threat throughout the first half.
The decisive second goal arrived 12 minutes into the second half when Vipers were awarded a penalty after sustained pressure inside the box. Watambala stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to double the advantage.
From that point, the league leaders shifted into game management mode, slowing the tempo and cutting off any potential Buhimba comeback.Buhimba United struggled to generate meaningful chances as Vipers’ defensive structure held firm to secure a clean sheet alongside the win.
The result lifts Vipers to 55 points at the top of the Uganda Premier League table, reinforcing their status as title favourites. Buhimba, meanwhile, remain stuck in 15th place with 15 points from 24 matches, continuing their fight to move away from the lower end of the standings.
For Vipers, the victory was less about spectacle and more about control—an efficient return to winning form at a crucial stage of the season.
