Uganda Premier League clubs will have to recruit from a relatively small pool of elite coaches after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) published the official register of CAF A and CAF B licence holders ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The release comes as clubs prepare to comply with stricter club licensing regulations that now require both head coaches and assistant coaches to possess a CAF A Coaching Diploma.
The new regulations significantly narrow the options available to top-flight clubs, particularly those still searching for technical staff. Express FC, for example, are yet to appoint a new head coach following Jimmy Kintu Mwera’s departure, while several other clubs had also not confirmed their benches by the time the list was released.
FUFA has, however, provided temporary relief by allowing assistant coaches currently employed under valid FUFA-registered contracts to continue serving with CAF B licences until those contracts expire.
The latest requirements represent a major shift from the 2025/26 campaign when only head coaches needed CAF A qualifications while assistants were eligible with CAF B licences.
The published register also highlights the growing depth of qualified Ugandan coaches, with experienced tacticians, former internationals and several female coaches earning CAF coaching badges.
