Age proved to be no barrier at the Lugazi Hills and Country Club on Saturday as 64-year-old David Plenderleith rolled back the years to clinch the Seniors’ title of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Series.

The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa golfer, playing off handicap 25, posted a gross score of 167 across two rounds, holding off seasoned competitors in a tightly contested field. Plenderleith shot 83 on the opening day and followed it with 84 in the second round, his steady game punctuated by two birdies — one at the par-5 16th and another at the par-3 3rd.

His consistency over 36 holes was enough to edge out former champion John Muchiri, who carded 170 to settle for second place, while Tony Kisadha finished third on 172. Rwanda’s Joseph Semwaga and veteran Michael Cleave rounded out the top five in what was a truly regional contest.

The competition was equally fierce in the ladies’ category, where Jinja Club’s Catherine Pavie emerged victorious with a total of 192. She narrowly beat Katy Kabenge by two strokes, while Rose Azuba and defending champion Edrae Kagombe tied for third on 199.

Notably, back-to-back champion Stephen Katwiremu, who dominated in 2023 and 2024, could not replicate his past brilliance this time around, finishing 11th overall with 185.

With the seniors’ chapter now closed, attention shifts to the Ladies Open from August 28–30 at the same venue, followed by the Amateur Open (September 3–6) and the Professionals event (September 9–13), as the Johnnie Walker Golf Series continues to define Uganda’s golfing calendar.
