Uganda’s Husina Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi made history at the Cameroon International Badminton Challenge in Yaounde, clinching a bronze medal in the women’s doubles event. The duo’s exceptional performance captivated the crowd, and although they lost to Indonesia’s Nabila Cahya Permata Ayu and Nahya Muhyifa in the semifinals, their achievement marked a milestone for Ugandan badminton.
Uganda became the only African country to mount the podium in the women’s doubles event, while Indonesia topped the medal chart, winning gold in all categories. India won gold in four out of five categories, missing out on the women’s doubles.

Reflecting on their achievement, Kobugabe expressed immense pride, highlighting the remarkable journey they undertook to secure the bronze medal. The duo demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill, overcoming intense matches with strategic gameplay. Their success was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and strong teamwork.
Kobugabe and Mbabazi remain committed to their long-term goals. They will depart for Nigeria on August 25 to participate in the Lagos International Challenge, scheduled for August 27-30, 2025, further demonstrating their unwavering commitment to excellence on the international stage.
