All is set for the annual Som Inter project Chess Championship that will take place at the Sports Outreach resource center, Kiwawu on Mityana Road with participants playing in Fide rated 8 rounds.
The 17th edition will commence from 16-19th December were players will be grouped according to age groups U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 and awards given according to Junior and Open in both girls and boy’s respectively.
The championship will attract participants from seven different Som inter project cChess Academy branches including Kampala, Gulu, Jinja, Kagadi, Masaka, Hoima and Budaka.

Juicy cash prizes are on stake for the top performers in all categories with the winner walking away with cerficates and several trophies for all FIDE rated sections.
The tournament is organized by SOM Chess Academy and sponsored by Robert Katende Initiative, Sports Outreach Kiwawu and City Sports House.
Som Chess Academy uses chess game to transform lives through chess with the theme “One move at a time”. Its owned by Robert Katende and was founded in 2004.

Last year’s edition Patricia Nawuma and Kato Richard were crowned winners in open category in ladies and men category respectively.
In the unrated category boys, Shagamaya Ashraf walked away with prize and differently abled category was won by Mbaziira Wasswa Sharif among others.
