Relegation-threatened UPDF’s struggles in the Uganda Premier League continued after falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Lugazi at Najjembe on Wednesday evening.

The soldiers failed to recover from an early setback, conceding in the 15th minute when Richard Ayiko rose highest to head in Abdul Kalanzi’s well-delivered corner. The goal ultimately proved decisive in a contest short on clear-cut chances.

UPDF attempted to regroup and push forward but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Their defensive line was briefly exposed again midway through the first half when Ayiko found the net for a second time, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

Despite tactical adjustments after the break, UPDF could not unlock Lugazi’s disciplined backline. The hosts managed the game effectively to secure maximum points and ease pressure on themselves.
The win lifts Lugazi to 10th place with 18 points, while UPDF remain 15th on 12 points after 17 matches.

In Yumbe, Calvary and Express played out a goalless stalemate.
