SC Villa edged past bottom-placed Calvary FC with a narrow 1–0 victory in a Uganda Premier League encounter played at the FUFA Kadiba Stadium, a result that lifted the Jogoos to third on the table with 23 points.
The decisive moment came as early as the fifth minute when Aslam Ssemakula calmly converted from the penalty spot after Calvary captain Stephen Oriokot committed a foul inside the box. Villa pressed for a second but were wasteful in front of goal, with Frank Ssebuufu missing a clear chance midway through the first half.
Calvary responded well and enjoyed long spells of possession, creating several opportunities before the break, but failed to find a way past Villa’s defence. Goalkeeper David Lukwago briefly required treatment before later being replaced by Jeans Braddy Wakorach at the start of the second half.
The visitors continued to push after the restart, forcing Villa to defend deep for large periods, but the hosts held firm to secure all three points.
The win moves SC Villa to 23 points in third place, behind leaders KCCA FC on 26 points and second-placed Vipers SC on 24, with Vipers holding a game in hand. Calvary remain rooted at the bottom of the standings with just three points.
