Express FC will be hoping to turn their fortunes around when they visit Maroons FC at the Luzira Prisons Grounds in a Uganda Premier League fixture clouded by off-field turmoil.
Reports have emerged indicating unrest within the Red Eagles camp, with players allegedly threatening to boycott the match over unpaid arrears. They are said to have demanded at least partial payment before agreeing to feature in the game a development that casts doubt on their readiness and morale ahead of kickoff.
The unrest comes on the back of a difficult week that saw players reportedly skip training in protest. However, should they take to the pitch, Express will need to dig deep to put their woes behind and rekindle the club’s fighting spirit.
The seven-time champions currently find themselves in 9th place with 28 points, two adrift of their hosts, Maroons FC, who sit 7th. Express are on a worrying run of three consecutive defeats and will be eager to avoid a fourth.
Their opponents, the prison warders under head coach Muhamed Senfuma, are riding high on confidence after edging Lugazi FC in their last outing. Known for their discipline and resolute defending, Maroons have often proved to be a tricky customer for Express in recent meetings.
As pressure mounts, Express will need more than just talent to overcome Maroons unity, resilience, and a response on the pitch may be just what’s needed to lift the club and its loyal supporters.
