Ugandan football fans will have the rare chance to watch international football at no cost this Friday after the CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) secured all tickets for the third-place playoff between Sudan and Senegal. The highly anticipated clash is set for August 29, 2025, at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The LOC confirmed that it had purchased the entire 28,000-ticket allocation from CAF, ensuring that fans can attend the match without paying a shilling.
Speaking during a media briefing, Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the LOC Communication and Signage Subcommittee, described the gesture as a “thank you” to Ugandans for the passion and energy they have shown throughout the tournament.
“Led by Maama Janet Museveni, the LOC felt it important to recognize the incredible support of Ugandan fans during this historic co-hosting of CHAN 2024. Their presence has made the competition memorable and successful,” Dr. Mugimba said.
How to Claim Tickets
Fans can only access the free tickets through CAF’s official ticketing platform. By registering their details online and applying the promo code CHAN3RD, each fan will be able to secure up to three tickets.
All tickets will bear the tag “NOT FOR SALE” but will include the usual CAF security features. The LOC has warned against third-party sellers, stressing that only the CAF portal is authorized to issue tickets.
What About Fans Who Already Paid?
CAF has reassured the public that a small number of fans who bought tickets before the switch to free distribution will be contacted individually, with arrangements made to address their cases.
With the LOC footing the bill, Friday’s playoff not only promises an exciting battle between Sudan and Senegal but also stands as a symbolic celebration of Ugandan fans—who, once again, will fill Namboole to capacity at no cost.
