Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) qualified for the knockout stage for the first time in seven years in the University Football League after playing to goalless draw with Nkumba away in Entebbe on Wednesday evening.
IUIU needed to a point to qualify which they did. Indeed the Mbale based club managed to qualify with 12 points, one above second placed Nkumba.
However, Nkumba needed to win to qualify automatically which didn’t happen. Now have to wait for Friday’s games between Victoria University versus Makerere in Group B to know if they can qualify or not.

IUIU Coach Haruna Kebba praised the character of his players, “We knew how Nkumba plays and we decided to live up with our expectations. My players also managed to listen to the instructions of the technical team,” noted Kebba.
However Coach Sulaiman Bbosa was disappointed that they did not win.
“We had many chances that we put to waste. Now our Qualification is not in our hands. But if we get if we shall prepare for the quarterfinal but we fail then we shall prepare for next season,” noted Bbosa.
