Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) showcased remarkable resilience to snatch a crucial point off Ndejje University in a dramatic Pepsi University Football League encounter that ended 1-1 yesterday at the Arena of Visions in Luwero.

With time slipping away and elimination looming, IUIU refused to bow to pressure, mounting a late surge that epitomized their never-say-die attitude. Ndejje had taken the lead in the 85th minute through Joel Olupot, who finished off a clever assist from Frank Ssemakula to send the home fans into celebration.

But IUIU, who had shown flashes of intent throughout the match, kept pushing. Their persistence finally paid off in added time when a 92nd-minute corner from Emmanuel Shikanga found captain Robert Twesigye towering above defenders to head home the equaliser, stunning the home crowd.

The goal sparked jubilation among the IUIU bench and travelling fans, a moment that kept their quarterfinal dreams alive. For Ndejje, it was heartbreak — a near-certain victory slipping away in the final seconds.

The result leaves Ndejje on five points, tied with Kumi University but second in the group due to having played one more game. IUIU, meanwhile, stay in contention for a last-eight berth with everything to play for in their remaining fixtures.

Group C action resumes today as leaders Kyambogo University host YMCA at their Nakawa grounds, targeting a third straight win to tighten their grip on top spot.
