Record holders KCCA FC have booked their place in the semi finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging past FUFA Big League side, Kaaro Karungi in a tense 2-1 quarter final win at Kyamate in Ntungamo.

Despite their recent struggles in the Uganda Premier League, the Lugogo based side showed resilience and determination to keep their silverware hopes alive, overcoming a spirited Kaaro Karungi side that had captured national attention with their fairytale run.

An own goal from Norman Ndyamuhaki and Usama Arafat strike gave KCCA the victory while Clinton Kamugisha scored a consolation for Kaaro Karungi.

The result marks a significant boost for interim head coach Jackson Magera, whose side has now shifted its focus squarely on lifting the Cup after their league title aspirations faded. The victory also underlines KCCA’s pedigree in the tournament. They are Uganda Cup’s most successful club and remain on course to extend their record.

Kaaro Karungi, led by veteran coach Richard Makumbi, can hold their heads high after a memorable campaign that saw them stun top-tier UPDF and reach the last eight. However, their magical journey ends at the hands of a more experienced and battle-hardened opponent.

KCCA now await the draw for the semifinals, where they will face tougher opposition as they chase a first Uganda Cup title since 2018.
