Dr. Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected for a second four-year term as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at the Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.
Motsepe became the seventh CAF president when he took office for the first time, and he remains the only South African to hold the role in history.
His first term received widespread praise, as many have credited him with improving CAF financial situation by reducing debt, increasing funding for official tournaments and zonal unions, and advancing the development of football on the continent.

During the assembly, it was confirmed that Motsepe has been elected as CAF president for second term following the imminent conclusion of his first term in office, which began in March 2021.
” It’s an honor and privilege, thank you so much,” said Motsepe during his speech after his elections.
“The achievements over the last few years was because of all of us and I am immensely grateful. The goal remains making African football competitive on the international stage, stabilizing finances, and investing in infrastructure that allows our teams and players to thrive,” Motsepe said at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly today.
