A long-awaited reunion takes center stage today as Kampala University face YMCA Comprehensive Institute in the first leg of the Pepsi University Football League semifinals at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

Nearly a decade since their last meeting, the tie brings together two sides at very different stages of their journeys. Kampala University arrive with pedigree and consistency, while YMCA step into uncharted territory, riding the momentum of a historic campaign.

Wafula (1), Mulwana (3), Kizito (6), Nsubuga (14), Onea (5), Okema (2), Mulooki (7), Ebong (10), Wanuume (17), Kiweewa (11), Nsubuga (8)

KU’s strength at Kadiba has been a defining feature this season, turning their home ground into a fortress. Their experience in the latter stages of the competition gives them an edge, but the technical bench has emphasized the need for focus against a confident opponent.

Boosted by the return of key defenders James Epaja and Simon Peter Owao, KU will look more solid at the back after a nervy quarterfinal passage. Going forward, their attacking unit will be expected to deliver in a match where control could prove decisive.

On the other hand, YMCA have emerged as one of the tournament’s surprise packages. Their run to the semifinals has been built on resilience and belief, qualities that have seen them overcome more fancied opponents along the way.

Their fearless approach, coupled with an ability to grind out results, makes them a dangerous side despite their relative inexperience at this level. With the away goals rule still a factor, YMCA will be keen to make their mark on the road before hosting the decisive second leg.

Ssenabulya (1), Ratib (4), Mutebi (12), Asiku (6), Oculu (2), Oketa (15), Luggya (5), Kangazi (10), Wasswa (11), Makubuya (16), Kiseka (17).

The stage is set for a tense and tactical battle, where history offers context but current form could ultimately define the outcome.
