Uganda Cup Round of 32
Today, 3pm
Police v Lugazi
Tapo Utd v Mutolere
Cup football takes centre stage this afternoon as Police FC welcome Lugazi FC for a decisive Round of 32 showdown in the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Kira Road Police Arena.
While league standings may paint Police as favourites, knockout football often tells a different story. The two Uganda Premier League sides have already shared tense moments this season, drawing 1-1 in Najjembe before Police edged the return fixture 2-1 in Kamwokya. With progression to the Round of 16 on the line, today’s meeting offers Lugazi a chance at redemption.

Police, guided by head coach Matia Lule, have built their campaign on discipline and home resilience. They sit sixth in the league with 32 points and have made Kamwokya a difficult hunting ground, registering five wins in eight home matches. That consistency has turned their arena into a fortress few sides enjoy visiting.
For Lugazi, the script is less comfortable. Tenth on the table with 18 points, they hover just above the relegation line and have struggled badly on the road, collecting only one away victory in nine outings across competitions. However, their recent 1-0 triumph over UPDF injected belief into a side desperate to change its narrative.

There is added intrigue on the touchline. Lugazi boss Simon Peter Mugerwa faces his former employers still seeking a first win against them since his departure in 2025. A cup upset would not only secure passage to the next round but also serve as personal vindication.
Police are expected to lean on the attacking partnership of Charles Bbaale and Bedia Djuma Ikamba, while Brian James Obedi and Figo Kizito provide width and creativity. Lugazi’s hopes rest on Abdul Kalanzi, Alfred Leku and Paul Busolo to deliver in key moments.
Elsewhere, record holders SC Villa progressed after edging BUL FC on penalties following a 2-2 draw, with Patrick Kakande and goalkeeper David Lukwago emerging as heroes.
