Soltilo Bright Stars FC have been relegated from the Uganda Premier League after a 1-0 defeat to UPDF FC on Tuesday in Bombo. Joseph Jjanjali’s solitary goal handed UPDF victory and confirmed Bright Stars’ fall from the top flight for the first time since their promotion in 2013.
The result, coupled with Mbarara City’s 1-0 win over Wakiso Giants, sealed Bright Stars’ fate with just three games left in the season. The club now sits on 16 points, well below the safety zone.
Bright Stars’ relegation marks the culmination of a troubled 2024/25 campaign marred by both technical and administrative issues.
Following the sacking of head coach Joseph Mutyaba, the club failed to name a substantive replacement, instead relying on technical director Ian Mutenda to manage the team in an interim capacity.
Bright Stars now join Mbale Heroes FC, who were relegated last week, as the confirmed teams dropping to the second tier. It marks a somber chapter for a club that once competed competitively among Uganda’s elite.
