South Africa defeat She Cranes to win their fourth Africa Netball Cup

The Spar Proteas defeated Uganda 65-50 to clinch their fourth Africa Netball Cup played in the MTC Dome, Swakopmund municipality in Namibia.

The proteas missed out on the 2023 edition of the competition to focus on the Netball world cup held on African soil for the first time, this time around have ended the year on a high winning both women and men’s category.

The She cranes showed resilience after slow start, trailing South Africa by four points lead in opening quarter 16-12.

At the end of the first quarter, South Africa had extended the lead to 6 points; 30-24.

The third quarter saw Spar Proteas take control of the match extending their lead to 50-33 score-line with brilliant feeds from the mid court and sharp interceptions in defence.

South Africa maintained their momentum in the final quarter to seal a commanding 15 points winning 65-50 and take gold home.

This is South Africa’s fourth title following earlier triumphs in 2013, 2019 and 2021 and proteas cruised to a 63-41 victory over Zimbabwe in the first semi final to secure their spot in the championship match.

South Africa have won the third Africa netball championship finals defeating Uganda following 2019 and 2021 while in 2013 they defeat Malawi to win their maiden trophy .

The Africa Netball Cup, formerly known as the African Netball Championships, is an international netball competition held every after two years. The first edition of the tournament was held in 2010, and in 2023, a men’s edition was introduced.
