Taddeo Lwanga’s return to Vipers SC isn’t just a transfer—it’s a symbolic homecoming of a player who has grown from promising talent into a continental competitor. After spending six years navigating elite football environments across Africa, Lwanga is back at Kitende, not just to add trophies, but to guide, lead, and leave a lasting mark.

The 30-year-old midfielder has penned a one-year deal with an extension option, reuniting with the StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions at a time when the club is gearing up to defend its league and cup double, while also aiming to make a deeper impression in continental football.

Having parted ways with Rwandan giants APR FC, Lwanga joins the Venoms with the composure of a seasoned professional and the hunger of a player who still has much to offer. His pre-season involvement with the team over the last few weeks left a strong impression on new head coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert.

“We see Taddeo not just as a player, but as an on-field general,” Minnaert said. “His leadership, intensity, and maturity will be crucial for us this season. He’s exactly what we need to raise our game on multiple fronts.”

Lwanga, speaking after inking his return, expressed not just joy, but a sense of purpose:
“This is home for me. I’m coming back with a different mindset—stronger, more experienced, and ready to lift those around me. I want to be part of a team that sets new standards and achieves more history for this club.”

The midfielder’s career since leaving Vipers in 2019 has been defined by grit and success. Stints at Tanta FC (Egypt), Simba SC (Tanzania), Arta/Solar7 (Djibouti), and APR FC saw him rack up silverware and valuable minutes in competitive continental tournaments. He was also instrumental in Uganda’s qualification for AFCON 2025 and previously played a key role in their Round of 16 finish in 2019.

With his return, Lwanga adds depth and experience to a midfield unit already boasting Marvin Youngman, Paul Mbowa, and Frank Katongole. Beyond tactics, his professionalism is expected to rub off on the club’s younger players.

Vipers SC have been active in the market ahead of the new season, with Lwanga joining other new faces like Enock Ssebagala, Nigerian striker Odili Chukwuma, Burundian winger Mark Yallah, and Ivorian attacker Kevin Dasylva Bady.

As the new season looms, Lwanga’s comeback could be a defining piece in Vipers’ quest to not only dominate domestically but command attention across Africa.
