UEFA has appointed Kenyan FIFA Assistant Referee Stephen Yiembe Eleazar Onyango to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Aston Villa.
Kenyan assistant referee Stephen Yiembe has achieved a landmark milestone, becoming the first match official from the nation to be appointed for a UEFA competition, the assignment places him among a select group of African officials entrusted with overseeing one of Europe’s premier club competitions.
The Nakuru born official will serve as Assistant Referee Two in an all East African officiating team led by Somalia’s Omar Artan as the centre referee. Djibouti’s Liban Abdoulrazack Ahmed has been named Assistant Referee One.
The prestigious match, scheduled for August 12 at Germany’s Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, will feature a showdown between UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and UEFA Europa League champions Aston Villa.
Yiembe’s latest appointment comes under the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UEFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which seeks to strengthen cooperation in areas including referee development and exchange programmes.
Earlier this year Stephen Eleazar Onyango Yiembe was been appointed as Assistant VAR 2 for the AFCON 2025 final between Senegal and Morocco.
Stephen has been been on the list of FIFA referees since 2018.
