Uganda Rugby Union appoints former South African international as backs’ coach

Uganda Rugby Union has appointed former South African international Zane Kirchner as a backs coach for the national team, the Rugby Cranes.

Kirchner will work alongside head coach Fred Mudoola and the existing coaching team to prepare the team for the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, which doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Rugby Cranes Team Manager Andy Ikopit expressed excitement about Kirchner’s appointment, citing his experience and insight as valuable additions to the team. Kirchner himself is looking forward to working with the players and coaching team to help unlock the team’s potential.

“Bringing in someone with Zane’s experience adds tremendous value to our setup. He has competed at the highest level and brings insight that can help our players grow. His presence boosts our technical capacity as we build towards a critical year for Ugandan rugby,”said Ikopit.
