When the KAVC International Volleyball Tournament serves off in Lugogo next week, Ugandan clubs will be carrying more than just their jerseys onto the court—they will be carrying the weight of national pride.

For the past three editions, Rwandan teams have reigned supreme, with REG and Rwanda National Police sweeping both the men’s and women’s titles in 2023. Their dominance has left Uganda’s volleyball fraternity restless, and this year’s competition is seen as a chance for redemption.

This year’s edition has drawn 26 teams from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Ghana—turning Lugogo into a melting pot of regional volleyball rivalry. Local powerhouses such as KAVC, KCCA, Nkumba, and Sport-S will have to be at their very best to counter polished foreign outfits hungry for glory.

Beyond the battle for titles, the tournament will also feature corporate volleyball and the NSSF KAVC 2025 Primary Schools’ Finals, giving fans a taste of both elite and grassroots action.

Ugandan supporters remember 2017, the last time a home club clinched the men’s crown, and believe the tide must turn. With preparation sharpened and the stakes higher than ever, the question lingers: can Uganda finally end Rwanda’s stranglehold on East Africa’s biggest volleyball showpiece?
