The upcoming volleyball season in Uganda is set to be one of the most competitive yet, following a historic wave of player transfers across the country. The Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) has confirmed a staggering 91 transfers, the highest in a single season, signaling intense preparation and ambition among top clubs.

Sport-S Volleyball Club Leads the Charge

Sport-S Volleyball Club from Nsambya has made the biggest splash, with 13 signings for both their men’s and women’s teams. The club is riding high after a double triumph, with the men’s team clinching their seventh national title and the women’s team lifting their maiden championship. New additions include Pike Mugisha, James Amoding, and Bosco Opila for the men’s team, and Rashidah Maajabu, Abigail Aliok, and Desire Kyomugasho for the women’s team.

Other Clubs Strengthen Their Lineups

KCB Nkumba Volleyball Club has reinforced their lineup with experienced receiver Peace Businge and skilled setter Margaret Namawejje, as they aim to bounce back from last season’s runner-up finish. Nemostars has strengthened their squad with five new recruits, including Geofrey Onapa and Happy Ayabale. KAVC has brought in nine players, including Aziz Busigye and Isaac Ogusul, to rejuvenate their lineup.

Growing Influence in Regional Volleyball

Ugandan clubs have made a strong impression in regional competitions, with all five clubs that participated in the 2025 Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Rwanda advancing to the quarterfinals. This showcases the country’s growing influence in regional volleyball.

Competition Heats Up

With record-breaking transfers and top clubs strengthening their lineups, the competition is set to heat up in the upcoming season. Clubs like Sky VC and St. Charles Lwanga VC have also joined the transfer frenzy, with 11 and 9 new signings respectively, as they look to rise up the ranks in the highly competitive league.

The UVF has praised the wave of transfers, saying it reflects the clubs’ desire to elevate the standard of the game and build a stronger, more vibrant volleyball community. The stage is set for an exciting season, with top clubs vying for dominance and pushing the sport to new heights.
