Lugazi v URA

Maroons v Calvary

URA FC will be desperate to end their winless start to the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season when they travel to Najjembe Stadium to face Lugazi FC today. The Tax Collectors have struggled to convert dominance into victories, drawing all three of their opening matches, while their hosts aim to build momentum with consecutive home wins.

URA’s campaign has been frustrating. After a 0-0 draw away to BUL, they shared points 1-1 with NEC at Hamz Stadium, and last Friday, a late strike by Express FC’s Mohamed Ssenoga denied Nelson Ssenkatuka’s goal the glory of giving URA their first win.

Head coach Alex Isabirye believes luck has not been on their side, with defensive injuries compounding their woes. “Three draws in a row are too many. We have dominated most games but haven’t been rewarded. Missing key defenders has hurt us, but the team is ready and focused on getting a win against Lugazi,” Isabirye said.

Adding spice to the fixture is a rare family face-off, with Alex Isabirye taking on his brother, Steven Bogere, Lugazi’s head coach. Last season, URA swept both encounters against Bogere’s side, winning 1-0 home and away.

Lugazi, in only their second top-flight season, enter the match with confidence after a resilient 0-0 draw away to KCCA last week, largely thanks to goalkeeper Juma Mutebi. They opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Calvary but slipped 2-1 to Entebbe UPPC in their second outing.

Bogere will count on key players like Freedom Mungudit, Sharif Saaka, Alfred Leku, and David Bogoole to trouble URA’s defense, while Isabirye will lean on David Ssemujju, Moses Aliro, and Norman Namanya to deliver the Tax Collectors’ elusive first win.

Currently, the 16-team league table sees Lugazi fifth with four points, just one ahead of URA in ninth, making this clash crucial for both sides in the early-season standings.
