Reigning champions SC Villa put up an impressive performance to secure a remarkable 1-0 victory over Vipers SC in the Uganda Premier League on Saturday at Wankulukuku.
Forward Charles Lwanga netted the lone goal as Villa won their third consecutive game in all competitions.
This was Vipers first defeat since their 3-1 loss to NEC in the opening game of the season. It was also their first goal to concede in nine League games.
SC Villa took the lead in the 41st minute, after good build up especially sweet assist from Patrick Kakande which was met by Lwanga to score a goal.
Even with introduction of strikers Isaac Ogwang, Kenneth Kimera, Vipers failed to break down Villa.
Villa even without skipper Ronald Ssekiganda they assembled a team that was ready to deliver.
Despite the defeat Vipers remained top of the standings with 49 points, two behind runners-up NEC FC while SC Villa climbed to the 8th position with 30 points from 21 games.
Villa coach Morley Byekwaso praised the character of his players.
“It’s was good performance from the players. We have also improved as team especially in defending. We want to keep up with this performance,” noted Byekwaso
