Vipers SC suffered a major blow in their Uganda Premier League title chase after falling 1-0 to BUL FC, denting their hopes of being crowned champions with two games to spare.

The defeat opened the door for NEC FC, who thrashed already relegated Bright Stars to close the gap at the top.

Despite heading into the match with high hopes of sealing the title, Vipers were undone by a late goal from Reagan Kalyowa, leaving them stuck on 65 points.

NEC’s emphatic 5-1 win in Kavumba lifted them to 61 points, just four behind the leaders with two matches remaining.

Emmanuel Ajo starred for NEC with a brace, while Cromwell Rwothomio, James Jeriko, and Emmanuel Kulanga also got on the scoresheet.

Bright Stars managed a consolation through Shafik Kakande, but the result confirmed NEC’s intent to push the title race to the wire.
