Three Ugandan primary schools that had qualified for the prestigious World Schools Chess Championships in the United States will now miss out on the global event due to registration complications. The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 2–8 in Washington, D.C.

The affected schools; Sister Mirum Dagan Primary School in Kamwokya, Peak Primary School in Ntinda, and Holistic Primary School in Mitooma District, had successfully secured their spots through qualification tournaments and had submitted all necessary documentation.

The setback has left players, coaches, and parents frustrated, especially given the time and resources invested in preparations.

Notably, Peak Primary School had successfully represented Uganda at the 2023 edition of the World Schools Championships in Aktau, Kazakhstan, gaining valuable experience and exposure.

The Uganda Chess Federation remains hopeful that such administrative challenges can be avoided in future international engagements and continues to advocate for better support and streamlined processes for school-based teams.
