KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially addressed the logistical challenges that saw the Kenya Under-15 boys’ and girls’ national teams spend an extra night in Uganda following the conclusion of the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers.
In a statement released on December 11, 2025, the federation clarified that while the teams were scheduled to depart on December 10, a delay in transport arrival forced a change in plans.

Safety First: Adhering to Night Travel Policies
According to the FKF, the decision to delay the departure was made in strict adherence to the Uganda Ministry of Education guidelines, which prohibit night travel for junior teams. Rather than risk a late-night journey, the delegation remained at their host school, St. Mary’s Kitende, overnight.
Reports had circulated online earlier today morning showing images of the young athletes in their team gear waiting at the facility, sparking concerns among fans and parents.
However, the FKF emphasized that the welfare and safety of the players remained the top priority.

Regional Cooperation
The federation expressed its gratitude to CECAFA and the management of St. Mary’s Kitende for providing continued support and accommodation during the unexpected delay. CECAFA has since briefed the continental body, CAF, on the situation, confirming that the Kenyan delegation’s comfort was prioritized throughout the stay.
Lessons for the Future
This logistical hurdle follows a challenging tournament for the Kenyan sides, who arrived in Kampala via a 13-hour bus ride just hours before their opening fixtures. The FKF acknowledged these “logistical, administrative, and operational challenges” and stated they are currently reviewing internal processes to strengthen coordination for future international assignments.
As of Thursday afternoon, the teams have officially checked out and are currently en route back to Kenya.
