Uganda’s motocross riders are gearing up for another shot at African supremacy as the country sends a 36-strong squad to the 2025 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) Championship, set for August 15–17 at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare, Zimbabwe.

For years, the Motocross Cranes have been the nearly men of the sport, Africa’s consistent top-three finishers and twice runners-up but now they’re chasing the elusive title they last held in 2012 when Uganda hosted the championship.

The Katende siblings are among those to represent Uganda.

This time, preparation has gone into overdrive. An advance technical team is already in Harare, working alongside some of the riders to fine-tune machines and get familiar with the track.

“We’ve had our challenges, especially financially, but I’m proud that we’ve assembled a strong side,” said FMU vice president Arthur Blick Jnr. “With the talent we have, we expect good results.”

Uganda will compete across all categories; MX 50 juniors, MX85cc elite class, MX125, MX1 (Open), Veterans, and Women against the continent’s best from South Africa, Kenya, and beyond.

The federation credits the National Council of Sports and the tireless rider parents for making the trip possible.

History shows Uganda has the pedigree. After their 2012 triumph, they finished second in Kenya in 2016, second again in Morocco last year with 447 points, just 32 shy of South Africa and consistently third in other editions.

Now, with their blend of youthful speed and veteran experience, the Motocross Cranes head to Harare determined to turn silver into gold.
