Blacks Power FC missed a golden opportunity to return to the top of the FUFA Big League table after a frustrating 1-0 defeat away to Calvary in a mid-week fixture at Midigo Primary School Playground.
With league leaders Buhimba United and third-placed Gaddafi both idle on Thursday, the stage was perfectly set for the Lira-based side to leapfrog their rivals. A draw would have sufficed to take them to the summit but they left empty-handed.
Head coach Robert Obira made just one change to the side that convincingly beat Onduparaka 2-0 in their last outing. Jimmy Okiror came in to partner Baker Buyala in a 4-4-2 setup, replacing the injured Andrea Noll Ogwal.
Calvary broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Simon Peter Odeke netted the only goal of the match. Moments later, the game was halted for about 10 minutes due to unruly behavior from the home fans. Once play resumed, six minutes of stoppage time were added, but Blacks Power couldn’t find a response before the break.

Obira’s side returned for the second half with urgency, prompting an early tactical shift—Nathan Oloro came on for Okiror. Later, Rogers Obira and Fazil Rajab were introduced in place of Buyala and Daniel Otim to bolster the attack, but the changes failed to yield results.
The narrow defeat sees Calvary bounce back after losing to Kataka in their previous game, while Blacks Power are left to rue a missed opportunity. After 22 matches, they remain on 42 points—level with Buhimba United, who have played one more game—but sit second due to goal difference.
Blacks Power will now turn their focus to another tough away fixture on Sunday, when they visit Paidha Black Angels at the formidable Bar Okoro Stadium. Elsewhere, Buhimba United will be at home to bottom-placed Booma, while Gaddafi sit out the weekend action.
