Sommet Basketball Club pulled off a thrilling 73–70 victory over the Namuwongo Blazers in a pulsating National Basketball League encounter at YMCA Wandegeya on Friday night, handing the Blazers a third straight defeat in agonizing fashion.

Locked at 51-all going into the fourth quarter, Sommet showed nerves of steel in the final minutes. With Peter Cheng Malek and Frank Nyembo calmly sinking clutch free throws and the defense turning up the intensity, Sommet edged Namuwongo 22–19 in the last frame to seal the win.
This hard-fought result lifts the league newcomers to fifth place with an 11–7 record in what has been an impressive debut campaign.

Namuwongo, who had a sluggish start and trailed 23–10 after the first quarter, clawed their way back to lead 36–35 at halftime. The game remained finely balanced through the third, but a lack of composure in the closing stretch proved costly.
Andrew Sendaula led the way for Sommet with 17 points and six rebounds. Cheng delivered a monster double-double of 15 points and 15 boards, while Nyembo was equally impressive with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Blazers, Moses Mugisha and James Okello each scored 16 points, with Okello also hauling in 14 rebounds. Arthur Wanyoto contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Peter Obleng added 10 points off the bench.
Despite the stumble, Namuwongo still sit atop the standings but will be under pressure to bounce back as the playoffs loom.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s Division, KIU Rangers enhanced their postseason hopes with a gritty 64–57 triumph over the inconsistent UCU Lady Canons.
