Haruna Kataza in an inferior Subaru Impreza put up a spirited fight but could not beat match Hassan Alwi who emerged the winner in KCB- SMC Masaka Rally in Sembabule.
Kataza navigated by David Mwesigwa in a Subaru Impreza posted a total time loss of an hour, 14minutes, 48.26 seconds to finish fifth behind winner Hassan Alwi navigated by Musa Nsubuga in a ford fiesta proto, Jonas Kansiime, Duncan Mubiru and Musa Ssegaabwe.
Alwi, the International University of East Africa and DFCU fuelled crew posted a total loss time of an hour, 10minutes, 22.97 seconds to overcome the stiff challenge and opposition put up by Jonas Kansime and Duncan Mubiru who came second and third respectively.

The tightly contested rally saw Kansiime post 1:11:43.38 while Duncan and Ssegaabwe posted 1:12:4.08 and Kataza 1:14:48.26 finish fourth and fifth respectively.
The National Rally Champion and four time National rally champion Ronald Ssebuguzi was the top casualty of the day dropping out of the two-day event in the second last stage of the rally.
Alwi who won the opening round of the national rally championship in Mbale maintained his seat on top of the log.
Ambrose, sponsored by Yaobai Cement, suffered mechanical failure in the third last stage but managed to do a restart and compete at the power stage.

So far, 28cars out of the 37 completed the rally while two dropped out but with one having an option of the restart on Saturday in the Sembabule Stages.
The Masaka rally is the third round of the eight National Rally championship.
