Throughout February, Kalanzi played a pivotal role in Lugazi FC’s performances. Notably, he scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory against Wakiso Giants FC in the Uganda Premier League. Additionally, his second-half penalty secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Police FC at the Lugazi FC Stadium. He also scored a brace as they eliminated Calvary in the Uganda Cup.

Kalanzi’s consistent contributions have been instrumental in Lugazi’s recent successes, reflecting his commitment and the collaborative effort of the team.

“From day one it has been the support of my teammates and technical team that has enabled me to perform. I want to keep doing this since it motivates me. Winning this accolade will not leave me the same,” noted Kalanzi as this accolade includes a cash prize of sh500,000.

In cricket, Juma Mayaji was the best, beating Henry Ssenyondo and Raghav Dhawan to the accolade.

The first pace bowler, led Uganda to another unbeaten streak in the second round of the just concluded ICC Challenge League B Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Hong Kong. He was the standout bowler for the Uganda Cricket Cranes in Hong Kong.

Miyaji was named Player of the Match after taking 6 wickets for 17 runs in 8.1 overs against Tanzania. The youngster picked up a total of 12 wickets, the most in the tournament from 123 balls. 6 against Tanzania from 17 balls, 4 against Bahrain from 52 balls and 2 against Hong Kong from 54 balls.

“This accolade will motivate but also I have to work hard if I am to perform,” noted Miyaji.

However, in basketball, Jane Asinde was the best, beating Shillah Lamunu and John Deng Geu to the accolade. Asinde was voted the MVP of the FIBA Zone Afro-Basket Qualifier and also led the Uganda Gazelles to a 74-63 victory over Egypt in the final. She averaged 18.8 points per game, including 19 points in the final.

Asinde’s highest score of the Qualifiers was 28 points against South Sudan.

Former Referee Fred Mafta was awarded a Lifetime achiever award.
